Students speak out on Week without Walls

by Kevin Lee and Aloysius Lum

Last month, secondary students went to Week without Walls. “Week without Walls” is a week where students have an opportunity to go out of school and have a time to relax from school, or learn valuable life lessons, experiences, and skills. Each year group went to different places. Y6 went to Cheong Mai, Thailand(泰国清迈). Y 7&8 went to Pak Lap Wan, Hong Kong (香港西贡区). Y9&10 went to Yang Shuo (阳朔).Y11 went to Hei shan (黑山). Y 12 went to Twin Moon Bay  (双月湾). There were many different opinions on week without walls.  Here are some of them:

Opinions:

  •  I felt that it was a good service experience, especially when the scenery was great. We were there to experience things we have never done before. For example, farming and painting a school wall. However, I thought that the organization and communication between the organizers and us should be improved. It would be better if we knew the exact things we were going to do every day. Also, it could be improved in the way where there could be more student input in the activities we were going to do during camp, therefore, more positive engagement.
  •  For group 4 Project, the questions were limited, so there was nothing else to talk about, I think that they should give us more options for the group projects. I think that they should make the curfew earlier so we can rest earlier, we had to stay up until 10 pm, which is very tiring.
  • I would give 8/10 for this trip. The reason why is because I liked the groups for the science project. I was worried that the project would be boring but personally, the fact that the project was related to the ocean made me enjoy the whole process. About the actual science projects, each one of the groups played a significant role. Every group had students from different science groups which were ESS, Biology, Physics and Chemistry. If it were not for this project, the whole trip would be meaningless. On the other hand, I thought the food was generally tasted bad. (Especially the hotel breakfast). The place where we headed was on the countryside but we were given the money to go to wherever we wanted to go and eat. Plus, this trip also gave me a great opportunity to be close with the transfer student. After the whole week, I felt more refreshed and ready for school.
